I hope the new year is treating you well. 2011 was a great year for me, and 2012 is shaping up to be even better. I thought I’d let you know of all the exciting exhibitions, publications, and news that are about to occur.
I have 3 group paper art exhibitions that are going to be taking place in the next two months. Information for each show is as follows:

February 27, 2012
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 4 2012, 7-11 PM
For many, crafting with paper and scissors might be considered one of the earliest introductions to art. While some have ventured off to experiement other methods of artistry, a loyal few have indulged in their fascination with paper cut to produce works simple in context yet startlingly enigmatic in precision. Gallery Nucleus invites you to revisit the fundamental medium of paper and blade with “Carved Complexities,” an exhibition featuring a select group of renowned paper cut artists who elevate the form of paper cutting to new heights of detail and imagination.
Participating artists include: Ted Prize Winner Beatrice Coron, Hunter Stabler, Julene Harrison, Kevin Jay Stanton, Lucrezia Bieler, Matt Shlian, and Mr. Yen. I am honored to show with this ridiculously talented group of paper artists.
Since its development in 2nd century China, paper has primarily been used in artistic practices as a flat surface for the application of other materials. With the advent of origami in 17th century Japan, artists have embraced paper as a primary resource, and have continued to explore its dimensional and organic possibilities. Included in this exhibition are works by Jin Lee, Anonda Bell and others.

I will send an updated participant list once it becomes finalized but there are some pretty heavy hitters in this exhibition.
I will also be participating in the 2012 G40 Summit Exhibit that will be hosted in Richmond this year. This is a great event celebrating Installation art and Street art. It was a huge success last year and is looking to be as good this year. Tentative dates are set for April but I will have more info once it is finalized. Big thanks to Microwave projects for inviting me to participate again.
University of Arkansas has invited me to give an artist lecture on my work as well as a small exhibition and demo of my process on Thursday April 26th. This will be an exciting experience to share my work and process to such a successful program. I’d like to thank The University of Arkansas and Robert Lemming for arranging this visit.
I will be featured in the upcoming publication “Paper Work” published by Sandu Publishing. This has been in the works for some time and will be set to release soon. I will notify you once this publication becomes available.
Schleunungdruck, a German publishing company, also put out a great paper art calendar that featured two of my works.
Work feature in Schleunung Druck 2012 Calendar
– TheImageCalendar 2012is ready! Finally, I’ve been invited to participate in the ART PAPERS ART AUCTION for 2012 and am extremely honored to do so. ART PAPERS is a wonderful publication and is a not-for-profit publication providing diverse perspectives on contemporary art for thirty-five years.
Please join us for the 13th Annual ART PAPERS ART AUCTION – an impressive showcase of work by 275+ famed and emerging artists from around the world benefiting ART PAPERS’ award-winning programs.

I know this was a lot of information but the beginning of 2012 has been amazing so far. I’m excited to see how the rest of the year develops. Hope all is well with all of you and thank you so much for your continued support.
I use paper to create a world of fiction that challenges the viewer to suspend disbelief and venture into my fabricated reality. By layering paper I am able to build intriguing land formations that mimic viral colonies and concentric sound waves. These strange landmasses contaminate and infect the surfaces they inhabit transforming the space into something suitable for their gestation. Towers of paper and color jut into the viewer's space inviting playful interactions between the viewer and this conceived world. These constructions question the notion of microbial outbreaks and their similarity to the visual representation of sound waves, transforming them into something more playful and inviting.

I wish I could go to some of these shows! Perhaps it’s related to dad being a printer and my being a librarian, but I love paper art. Congrats.
